E-Cubic - An Energy Strategy by Raemian

The ultimate lifestyle realized in a cubic three-dimensional space!
The space in which we live is a three-dimensional one and the people are expressed as a single dot. The  "E" stands for the Energies in our life that encounter a Cube.
Raemian suggested five design elements based on the concept of the E-Cube, which are Energy Saving, Energy Recycling, Ecology, High Efficiency and Natural Energy. All five elements play an important role in providing the process involved in fusing the concepts that each element embodies.
  • Energy Saving - Capturing enrergy that is being unnecessarily depleted
Energy is an extremely important consideration in building a futuristic residential space that employs cutting-edge technologies. Our houses waste energy, thats a fact. To address this issue, Raemian adopted the "Energy Saving" concept, which recaptures energy that can be easily wasted here and there, into the design. T
he home automation system, named Raemian Energy Management System (REMS) analyses and controls energy usage. It enables constant real-time monitoring of volume of electricity use, specific load, gas, heating, water usage level and fee, apartment fee by year and month. In addition actual conditions on energy consumption are analyzed to encourage a routine that reduces energy use. Intelligent air-conditioning and heating systems are installed in such indoor spaces as the bedroom maximize energy conservation. the intelligent system, which is based on infrared sensing devices, prevent unnecessary waste of energy while facilitating a pleasant indoor environment.
  • Energy Recycling - Limitless square of energy
"Energy Recycling" pursues perpetually repetitive circulation, not merely a single or several circulations. It has become a integral element of E-Cubic. Raemian features a system called "Watergy" a combination of the words "water" and "energy".This refers to the ecological treatment of heavy water through the use of solar energy. In addition to the fact water used at the home undergoes sewage treatment to be recycled as water for domestic use, the process of solar energy being used to heat water and provide heating through heat exchange is also fundamental component of the environment-friendly approach.
  • Ecology - Environment-friendly architecture that reduces natural losses
Raemian adopted the element "Ecology" to build housing using materials that are as close to nature as possible and to create a residential environment that is similar to nature. A leading example is the "fountain tower" that will perform the role as a spring within the Raemian complex. Through the fountain tower, tap water passes through natural minerals like zeolite, evlan, germanium and deep-sea minerals, to become purified and provides clean water to the residents.
The "corrugated cardboard duct" which was developed for the first time in Korea, is a new material that places the highest priority on ecological value. This product, which replaces the
existing zinc coated duct or PVC duct, reduces the volume of carbon dioxide generated during the production process to a about one-quarter of existing methods. Moreover, the double airspace of the corrugated cardboard duct not only enhances insulation efficacy, but is also outstanding in reducing noise.
  • Natural Energy - Dividing the source energy of nature
The process of mankind generating and using energy requires the use of other energy. However, natural energy, which is in great abundance, is an optimal resource that does not damage nature.
The small ventilation wind power generation is an example of an advanced use of natural energy. This involves generating electricity through simultaneous use of natural wind and ventilation wind that is discarded from the dry ventilation areas in underground parking lots or near ventilation fans on the rooftops.
This Raemian Style also proposes the "Eco Heating Pump" system which improves the efficiency of combustion-type boilers by three to four times. The Eco Heating Pump is a radiant heating system that supplies atmospheric energy as electrical energy.
  • High Efficiency - Optimal use of energy that incrase product by twofold
Raemian's "High Efficiency" is a concept involved with creating a residential space that uses energy in the most suitable manner. A design that  achieves high efficiency in the use of resources and spatial arrangement stands at the peak of  where technology and aesthetics meet.
Building materials that include the Phase Change Material (PCM) are included in the smart wallboard, aerated concrete, cooling panel and plaster. PCM refers to latent heat storage materials, heat accumulating materials and cold storage materials that accumulate high level of heat energy or emit stored heat energy.
This overview of the Raemian Style concepts will help us to get a better understanding of all the technological thoughts we will introduce in the next posts.

Raemian Gallery

Before I'll write some facts about the work of both universities, I will present you an abstract of a very interesting visit of the so-called Raemian Gallery in Seoul. Focusing on our project, we can find many ideas of new technologies, architecture, integration of new technologies in architecture and even ideas of implementing new programs for the needs of human living.
But please just read the following lines:
About Raemian

Raemian is a brand of Samsung C&T Corporation for apartments. Raemian has been ranked No.1 on NCSI (National Customer Satisfaction Index) for apartment construction since.
Samsung C&T Corporation (formerly Samsung Corporation) is the origin of Samsung Group and currently consists of Engineering & Construction Group and Trading & Investment Group. The company was renamed from Samsung Corporation, which focused its business on trading and investment, to Samsung C&T Corporation after having merged with Samsung Engineering & Construction. Raemian is brand of the Engineering & Construction Group,
one Key Business Areas of the Samsung C&T Corporation. First lets have a look at some impressive work planed, designed and build by the Samsung C&T Corporation:
  • Building works:
Petronas Tower (Kuala Lumpur), Taipei 101 (Taiwan) and Buri Khalifa (Dubai)
  • Civil works:Incheon Grand Bridge and High-speed Railway C280 in Taiwan

  • Plant works:
Petrochemical Complex in Taiwan, Nuclear Power Plant Units 5&6 in
    Uljin
  • Housing works:Samsung Tower Palace and Raemian Dogok in Seoul

Raemian Style
Since 2004, Samsung C/T Corporation has stood out at the vanguard of the housing culture by establishing its “Raemian Style”. The pioneering trend proposed by Raemian is the “E-Cubic”, representing five “E” elements that work together in a three-dimensional approach to create an enviroment-friendly residental space. This residental space was designed to enable the systematic combination of five enviroment-friendlyenergy conservation technologies, including “Energy Saving”, “Energy Recycling”, “Ecology”, “High Efficency”, and “Natural Energie”. Lets see how E-Cubic is applied at actual space.

Persons and Institutions of the Project

Konkuk University.
Konkuk University was founded in 1946 and is among  the TOP 8 Universities in South Korea. There are about 25.000 students in undergraduate and 5.000 in Graduate Programs. They are divided  into 20 Colleges, 13 Graduate Schools, 99 Undergraduate, 83 Graduate, 56 Doctoral Degrees and 7 Master and Doctoral degrees. Furthermore, there are about 50 research institutes!
In the year 2011 Konkuk University wants to be one of the five top universities in Korea. Since 1998 they are University partner of theRheinMain University of Applied Siences. Please find out more information  online at Konkuk University.

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences
Established in 1971, the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences is a public university in the privince Hesse. There are about 9.500 students in 46 faculties. The university offers an ideal education by combining its vocational opportunities, with its favorable geographical location, its consistent proximity to the market and society, its research activities and team spirit to a unique practice proximity to life. At the educational focus are the students themselves. A study at the  University of Applied Siences means preparation for modern professional fields, which means the application of scientific methods or artistic ability. You can find some more information visitng the website of RheinMain University.

Both universities are long-term sibiling universities. Some student exchanges of the departments of interior design & communication design in 1998 marked the start of the universities' cooperation. Later workshops, study tours and staff exchanges were added. Meanwhile, relations also exist for the Department of Social Affairs, the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering and more recently a cooperation agreement with the Wiesbaden Business School. Since 2005, Konkuk University invites every year in July/August to the International Summer Program (ISP) lasting for four weeks. This year participated eight students of the RheinMain University of Applied Siences.
This project is planned for the duration of two years. During this time three students of Wiesbaden will stay at Konkuk University. Each of them will stay more than three months. Vise versa there are three students going from Korea to Germany for the time of  five months. They either attend the faculty of Architecture or Computer Sciences.
Likewise, the professors of  both universities and the two different departments will visit each other several times within these two years. Should you be interested in getting more detailed timetables, you can have a look at the calendar at the end of this blog.
